Stephen Tatar, Master Sergeant (MSG) was born in Lancaster, PA and graduated from Lampeter-Strasburg High School in 2003. He enlisted in the United States Army in 2005 and completed OSUT at Fort Sill, OK. Tatar has served as a forward observer, joint fires observer, and team leader with 2-7 CAV and 4-6 IN, Fort Bliss, TX.
Tatar served as a battalion fires sergeant with 1st BN 66 AR Regiment and brigade fires operations sergeant, 4th ID. He also served 24 months as the first sergeant for Bravo Battery, 3-29 Field Artillery Regiment. Tatar has completed three combat tours in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn, and one tour in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Tatar’s military education includes Basic Leader’s Course, Advanced Leader’s Course, Senior Leader’s Course, Master Leader’s Course, the Army Basic Instructor’s Course, and Common Faculty Development Instructor Course (CFD-IC).
Tatar's awards include the Combat Action Badge, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (8 oak leaf clusters), the Army Achievement Medal, the Good Conduct Medal (6th award), the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal (4 combat stars), the Afghanistan Campaign Medal (1 combat star), the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Ribbon (Numeral 4), and the NATO Service Ribbon.
Tatar is married to Caroline Tatar from El Paso, TX and they have two children, Julianna and Jacob.
